- Verna Castanza Memorial Tournament was Saturday, January 27, 2007. It was held in memory of Gordon Castanza's mother.

- The Verna Castanza Memorial Go Tournament was held at Commencement Bay Coffee Company on January 27. SGC
manager Jon Boley (6-dan) won the tournament with three wins and no losses. Chih-Yu "Daniel" Fang, 7 years old, came
from Eugene, OR to win the single-digit kyu section. There were 19 players altogether.
- On February 17, five of us from Tacoma (Edward Kim, Steve Stringfellow, Solomon Choe, Gordon Castanza, and Mike Malveaux) and
two from Olympia (Jason Baghboudarian and Jaime Kaszynski) played in the PI Bank Asian
New Year Go Tournament. We also saw Chris Kirschner there, and Jon Boley (who helped with the pairings, and brought extra go sets),
and Scott Arnold plus a few others from Seattle Go Center. Edward Kim won the $500 championship prize.

- Monthly Ratings Tournament at Seattle Go Center Sunday, April 1, 2007 beginning at 1:00 pm
- On April 7, 2007, Tacoma Go Club held an organizational meeting at Cutters Point Coffee. We're now a 510(c)(4) nonprofit, tax-exempt organization -- Thanks, Gordon! Gordon Castanza was elected President/Secretary for a 1 year term, Mike Malveaux was elected Vice-President for a 1 year term, and Li YI was elected Treasurer for a 1 year term. Gordon's draft bylaws were amended and approved, and will be posted here as soon as I convert them to .pdf.
- Cherry Blossom Festival Tournaments at Seattle Center, organized by Seattle Go Center.
Saturday, April 21: Cherry Blossom Open Tournament starts at 10 a.m. (be there at 9:30 to register); free of cost (but AGA-rated); four rounds.
Sunday, April 22: Lightning Youth Tournament starts at 12 noon; free of cost; followed by a tour of the Festival.
Cho Seok-Bin (7d, 2005 European championship runner-up) visited Tacoma April 26 through April 29.
Saturday, April 28: Mr. Cho spoke about joseki (what's best when White plays at A, B, or C in the diagram), and played simuls with 6 players from Tacoma and Seattle.
- May 5, 2007: Tacoma Go Club now owns 16 Excalibur G.T. II game clocks. We got a decent price on them through Wholesale Chess. Gordon, Steve, and Mike spent an hour setting them up for the tournament on May 12. Should be great!

- Monthly Ratings Tournament, Sunday, May 6, 2007, at Seattle Go Center, beginning at 1:00 pm
- May 12, 2007: The TGC Spring Tournament at Commencement Bay Coffee Co. had five players. Solomon Choe was the strongest; Joel Simpson was the furthest traveler (from North Puget Sound Go Club); Kevin Burton was the youngest; and Gordon Castanza and Mike Malveaux completed the field. We decided that from now on, we won't try to hold tournaments during Mother's Day weekend.
- May 19, 2007: Tacoma Go Club and Olympia Go Club will alternate hosting monthly AGA-rated games on the 3rd Saturday of each month. June 16th is the first session. There was discussion that we might skip July.
- Oregon Spring Go Tournament in Corvallis, OR, at the Brownell's home, Saturday, May 19, 2007. AGA-rated, 3 rounds. Registration at 9 a.m.
- The US Youth Go Championship games were fun to watch (May 26-27, 2007). Two or three of us from Tacoma went to the Seattle Go Center to help with broadcasting the games on KGS. Thanks to the Ing Foundation for supporting the event!

- Monthly Ratings Tournament at Seattle Go Center Sunday, June 10, 2007 beginning at 1:00 pm (rescheduled due to Guo Juan workshop)
- Tac-Oly Monthly AGA-Rated Games at Commencement Bay Coffee Saturday, June 16, 2007. Tentative info (as of May 26 -- please check back or contact us as the date gets nearer)-- register between 11:30 a.m. and 12:00 noon, first game starts 12:05, two games, no playing fee (just AGA membership fee, if not currently a member).
- North American Ing Championship Qualifier will be at Seattle Go Center, Saturday, June 23, 2007. It's 4 rounds, with the first round starting at 10 a.m., and lunch and dinner included in the playing fee ($15 to $30, depending on your age, rating section, AGA/SGC memberships, etc. -- see SGC site).
- James Kerwin 1P teaches at Hollyhock BC, July 8 - 13, 2007
AGA West Coast Summer Go Camp will be in Tacoma, at Pacific Lutheran University, from July 14th to July 21st. Head teacher will be Mingjiu Jiang, 7p!

- 23rd Annual U.S. Go Congress, July 28 - August 4, 2007, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania
- Gordon Castanza, Solomon Choe, Mike Malveaux, and (honorary Tacoman) Dennis Wheeler attended the US Go Congress in Pennsylvania, July 28-August 4, 2007. We all had a great time (especially Dennis and Mike, who hitched a ride to and from the Congress in a private turboprop, and got to record games in the "Strong Players' Room" all week)!
- Monthly Ratings Tournament at Seattle Go Center Sunday, September 2, 2007 starting at 1:00 p.m. Carpool leaving from Mike's place, 1020 S. 25th St. (253-906-0095), about 11:40 a.m.
- Potluck Go Party at Gordon Castanza's place in Gig Harbor, Saturday, September 15, 2007.
- Back to School Tournament at Commencement Bay Coffee Saturday, September 29, 2007. Three rounds, AGA-rated. Playing fee $10 for kids up to 18 years old, $15 for students 18 to 22, and $20 for adults older than 22. Prizes including books and game sets.
- September 29, 2007: The TGC "Back to School" Tournament attracted 18 players, 22-kyu to 6-dan, including 3 from Seattle and 4 from Portland, Oregon. New AGA member #15824, Jang Bi, went undefeated at 6-dan to become the tournament champion and be provisionally rated 7.7. Keep your eye on him -- he's strong.
- Free Ratings Tournament at Seattle Go Center, Sunday, October 7, 2007. Three rounds starting 1:00 p.m.
- Four Tacomans carpooled to the Seattle monthly tournament October 7. We won half our games. Results were submitted and incorporated into the AGA ratings system in less than a week -- very speedy!
- Free Ratings Tournament at Commencement Bay Coffee Co., Tacoma, Saturday, October 20, 2007. Register no later than 11:45 a.m.; first game starts 12:00 noon.
- October 20, 2007: Eight players turned up for the Tacoma free ratings tournament, including Chris Wirfs who used to play in Seattle at The Last Exit, and has now rejoined the AGA. Solomon Choe at 4-dan was the strongest player present, and won both his games, including a half-point victory over Andrew Tapay. A few rungs down, Robert Tobias 15-kyu also won both his games. Thanks to all who came!
- Portland Fall Go Tournament at Lewis and Clark College, November 3 - 4, 2007; 5 rounds, $20 if preregistered (or $30 at the door). Several of us are driving down; contact Mike 253-906-0095 about carpooling. Amtrak is also a good option.
- Free Ratings Tournament at Seattle Go Center, Sunday, November 4, 2007. Three rounds starting 1:00 p.m.
- Cotsen Go Tournament in Los Angeles, California, November 10 - 11, 2007.
- Veterans' Day Tournament -- at Pacific Lutheran University's Garfield St. Bookstore, Saturday, Nov. 17 (date changed to not conflict with other November tournaments); 3 rounds. 12 players attended, included 3 from Portland. Guozhong Zhuang 5d and Mike Tobias 18k were undefeated. Also, this was the first tournament for Shelton, WA Go teacher Cydne Bennington 30k.
- Free AGA Ratings Tournament at Seattle Go Center, Sunday, December 2, 2007. Three rounds, starting at 1:00 p.m.
- Workshop taught by Yang Yilun 7p at Seattle Go Center, December 8 - 9, 2007. $75 (or $50 for youth and SGC life and yearly members).
- Free AGA ratings tournament at Commencement Bay Coffee Co., Saturday, December 15, 2007. Two rounds, starting at 12:00; register by 11:45 a.m. Twelve players attended, including three relative newcomers from Tacoma Community College Go Club.
- Iwamoto Youth 13x13 Tournament at Seattle Go Center, Saturday, December 15, 2007, starting 1:00 p.m.
- Salem Go Tournament at Willamette University, Salem, OR, Saturday, January 12, 2008. Registration opens 8:00 a.m., first round 9:00 a.m. Cost is $20 if pre-registered, otherwise $30 -- includes pizza lunch. Current AGA membership (or $10 rating fee) required.
