- Sat. Jan. 21: Salem Go Tournament at Willamette University, Collins Hall, Room 408, Salem, OR. $20 for adults, $10 for college students, $5 for players younger than 18. Send email to preregister (or pay $5 extra): <bazzanoj@onid.orst.edu>; include your full name, playing strength, AGA number and expiration date. (AGA non-members pay an additional $5 rating fee.) Three rounds, AGA rules, first round starts at 9:00 a.m., tournament fee inludes pizza lunch around noon.
- Sat. Feb. 4: Seattle Chinese Go Assn. monthly evening games at Seattle Go Center. Make friends in Go.
- Sun. Feb. 5: Free AGA ratings tournament at Seattle Go Center, 1:00-6:30-ish p.m.
- Sun. Feb. 12: Iwamoto Youth 13x13 Tournament at Seattle Go Center, four rounds, 20 minutes + 20 stones / 5 minutes overtime. Registration 1:00 p.m., first round 1:30 p.m., probably ends around 5:30 p.m.

- Sat. Feb. 18: Midwinter Tournament at Seattle Go Center. $20 if preregistered; $25 if not preregistered. Four rounds, Japanese rules, even-game komi 6.5. Free Korean-style lunch; cash prizes. Registration 10:00 a.m., first round at 10:30 a.m.
- Sun. March 5: Free AGA ratings tournament at Seattle Go Center, three rounds, 1:00-6:30-ish p.m.
- Sun. April 2: Free AGA ratings tournament at Seattle Go Center, three rounds, 1:00-6:30-ish p.m.
- Sat. April 22: Cherry Blossom Festival Tournament at Seattle Center (not Seattle Go Center), in the Center House, on the 2nd floor (same building as the food court). Free of charge, four rounds, AGA rated, 45 minutes + 25 stones / 5 minutes overtime. Registration 9:30 a.m., first round 10:00 a.m.
- Sun. April 23: Lightning Youth Tournament at Seattle Center (above the food court). Free of charge, 15 minutes absolute (no overtime); followed by a tour of the Cherry Blossom Festival.
- Sun. May 7: Free AGA ratings tournament at Seattle Go Center, three rounds, 1:00-6:30-ish p.m.
- Sat. May 27: Oregon Go Open, at the Majestic Theatre, 115 SW 2nd Str., Corvallis OR. Three rounds, registration at 8:30 a.m., first game starts 9:30 a.m., 45 minutes + 3x30 seconds byo-yomi. Adults $20, college students $10, under 18 $5; preregister by email to josh at revgum dot com or pay $5 extra (include your name, strength, AGA#). Non-AGA members pay additional $5 rating fee. Snacks provided, but arrange your own lunch. Three prize divisions: Dan, Single digit Kyu, and
Double digit Kyu; plus maybe a special prize category for youth players under 14 or 15.
- Sun. May 28: 8th Canada West Go Tournament, 4500 Kingsway (Crystal Mall Food Court) in Burnaby, BC (near Vancouver). Doors open 9 a.m. Cost: $15 if preregistered before May 26 ($10 for student); $20 on-site if not preregistered. Please register at wzkai@msn.com stating your rank, or phone 604-303-0352.

Tacoma Go Club Spring Tournament
4 rounds, AGA-rated. $20 entry fee goes toward prizes (discounted to $10 for students).
AGA membership required; may be purchased online or at the tournament. 9:00 am registration, first game at 10:00 am; we
should be finished by 6:00 pm. Held in the Regency Room of the "Scandinavian Cultural Center" at Pacific Lutheran University
(directions; see bldg. #34 on campus map).

- Thu. June 22: Last day for early registration for 21st U.S. Go Congress in Black Mountain, NC (to avoid $50 late fee).
- Sat. July 15 - Sat. July 22: 2006 AGA Summer Go Camp at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA.
- 2006-07-22: Gordon Castanza played in the Eugene, Oregon tournament, winning 2 and losing 1.
- 2006-07-20: Tacoma Go Club shirts (and mugs, mousepads, etc.) are now available through Cafe Press: www.cafepress.com/tacomagoclub. Proceeds go into the Tacoma Go Club kitty.
- 2006-07-19: Gordon Castanza and Mike Malveaux joined about 20 kids from the 2006 AGA Go Camp West on a trip to Mt. Rainier.
- 2006-07-18: Gordon Castanza is Tacoma Go Club's choice for AGA Western Region Board of Directors. The election will be held at the Go Congress in North Carolina.
- 2006-07-12: Mike Malveaux began teaching Go weekly to a handful of kids at the Eliza McCabe Townhomes.
- Sat. July 22: Eugene Go Tournament, Eugene, Oregon.
Three divisions; three rounds; lunch included; book prizes for all participants. $20 for general, $15 for students, $10 for players. At least one Tacoma player (Gordon Castanza) is going.
- Sat. July 29: Gordon's Go Barbecue, Gig Harbor, WA. Fellowship, food, and games!
Starts 1:00 p.m. at Gordon Castanza's house.
- Sat. July 29 - Sat. Aug. 12: 50th European Go Congress, Rome, Italy.
- Sat. Aug. 12 - Sun. Aug. 20: 21st U.S. Go Congress, Black Mountain, NC.
- Four Tacoma players (Steve, Gordon, Dennis, and Mike) went to the 2006 U.S. Go Congress, and had a great time. Mike placed 3rd in the US Open 6-kyu division, and was promoted to 5-k.
- Connie Hayashi's sister died senselessly and tragically in late August. We mourn with Connie in her time of grief. (Connie is the daughter of Tacoma Go Club emeritus Roy Hayashi, gone but not forgotten.)
- Solomon Choe spent the summer of 2006 in China with Go 'n' Games. He blogged a little during the trip, and came back 8 or 9 stones stronger.

- Olympia Go Club beat Tacoma 8-4 in the Teams Tournament at Olympia Freeschool. Congratulations, Olympia!
- Meetings at Mandolin and CP Coffee have been nicely attended lately -- usually 6 to 10 players have shown up in September 2006.
- Our friend Jon Boley, manager of Seattle Go Center, is studying Baduk in Korea for a few months. Read about his experiences on Jon Boley's blog.
- Monthly ratings tournament at Seattle Go Center, Sunday October 1 from 1:00 p.m. to about 6:30 p.m.
- Gordon Castanza won all his games at the October Ratings Tournament at Seattle Go Center. Congratulations, Gordon!
- Portland Go Tournament was October 21 and 22, 2006 at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, OR
- At the Portland Tournament on Oct. 21-22, players from Tacoma and Olympia combined won 15 out of 24 games. Not bad! Dr. Steve Stringfellow, Solomon Choe, Jason Baghboudarian, Mike Malveaux, and Dr. Gordon Castanza played.
- Saturday Oct. 28, we met at Mandolin Cafe, not Cutters Point Coffee, for
Team Tournament vs. Olympia -- the rematch on 4 boards -- 9 a.m. to ~ 3 p.m.
Mr. Oh, Tai Nguyen, and Kevin Burke joined us to play.
- Radio Hangook is announcing our Nov. 11 tournament in Korean on its news shows, and we've already gotten some responses and one new member from flyers posted at Boo Han Market and Paldo World. Welcome Mr. Oh 4-dan!

- Tacoma Autumn "Armistice Day" Tournament was Saturday, November 11, 2006
at Commencement Bay Coffee Co., 2354 S. Jefferson Ave., Tacoma, WA. Twenty-two players came. Things started with Gordon's
stirring remembrance of soldiers, their families and their sacrifices. When the dust settled, Steve Stringfellow had the
best record among the 4d-6d players; Tyler Sellon won the 4k-2d section; Dennis Wheeler won the 12k-8k section; and Gordon
Castanza won the 26k-17k section. (A bit of a gap from 17k to 12k...) Some very nice prizes from
Samarkand,
Slate and Shell,
Yutopian, and
Yunnan Arts were awarded to all who won two games or more.
