- Eleven played at the 2011 Veteran's Day Tournament on Saturday, November 12, at the Tacoma Art Museum. Solomon Choe was the undefeated champion! There were no complaints about the faster-than-usual 45 minute sudden death time limits, and the Go Clubs Online service worked nicely. Much thanks to Slate & Shell for their generous assistance in supplying prizes!

- Tacoma Go Club held its Back to School Tournament on Sunday, September 18, at the Seattle Go Center. Fifteen players enjoyed 3 rounds of AGA-rated tournament Go, and free pizza lunch!
Peter Mooyman from Olympia Go Club came in first, winning all three of his games. Attendees included four from the Portland area, and two first-time tournament players from University of Puget Sound in Tacoma.
See Tacoma Back To School Tourney report in the AGA E-Journal, and Tac-Sea Back To School Tournament in the AGA Go Database for detailed games info.

- Tacoma Go Club now has a "room" on KGS. When you're playing Go online, look for us in the rooms list, under "clubs."
- Gordon Castanza was re-elected as one of the two Western Region members of the AGA Board of Directors. Congratulations, Gordon! We know you'll continue to do a great job.
- Several Tacoma Go Club members are traveling to Santa Barbara for the 27th annual U.S. Go Congress at the end of July. It's eight days of Go Valhalla -- tournaments to play in every day, lectures from professional players, workshops, several merhandise vendors in one convenient area (much nicer than shopping over the internet) -- this is the biggest Go event of the year in North America.
Tacoma Go Club president Gordon Castanza is working as the treasurer for this year's Congress, and Mike Malveaux is a Co Tournament Director of the U.S. Open. It's going to be great! [Update: It was great! See you next summer, in North Carolina!]
- Tacoma Go Club held two tournaments in July, to get ready for the US Congress. The "Congress Warm-Up" was July 17 (results at AGAGD), and the "Congress Tune-Up" was on July 24 (results at AGAGD).
- Tacoma Go Club continues to meet monthly at the Tacoma Art Museum cafe (now called Relish). A few newer players have started coming -- very exciting to see unfamiliar faces! The space was a bit crowded during the spring Norman Rockwell exhibit, but most of the time we have the place nearly to ourselves. It works for informal matches, but we're still looking for a new tournament space. It should be inexpensive or free of charge, handicapped accessible, relatively quiet for serious play, with room for about thirty players. Please contact us with suggestions.
- Beginning Feb. 2011, Tacoma Go Club meets monthly, on the 2nd Saturday at The Workz Cafe (now called Relish) in the Tacoma Art Museum, from 11 AM - 3 PM so stop in for some games -- beginners welcome! (We had been planning to meet twice monthly, but once a month seems like a more feasible goal for now.)
February 12, Gordon, Peter, and Mike played several games there. (It's now official -- Mike needs to take two handicap stones from Peter.) The cafe is nice, with good sandwiches and soups, priced reasonably.
- Tacoma Go Club at Tacoma Art Museum -- In conjunction with a Japanese Woodblock Print exhibition, Tacoma Go Club did an educational / outreach event at the Museum's free "Third Thursday," January 20, 2011. Frank Brown (Seattle Go Center), Peter Mooyman (Olympia Go Club), Gordon Castanza and Mike Malveaux (both from Tacoma Go Club) introduced the game of Go to roughly two dozen visitors in three hours.
There also were taiko drummers and various other traditional Japanese cultural activities, and a visit from the Japanese Consulate. A great time was had by all, and it looks like starting in February, Tacoma Go Club will begin meeting at The Workz Cafe in the Museum, on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month!
- Pre-Thanksgiving Tournament at Seattle Go Center was November 21, 2010. Fourteen players attended; Ju Zhao 5 dan was the undefeated champion.
